My life as an artist started when I was around three years old, and would draw pictures
about things going on around me, or things I saw. It started out with the stick people my
mother taught me to draw. She said she remembers the first time I put a specific facial
expression on one of my characters.
“He was sitting with his legs in the air, and had the most shocked frown on his face,” she told
me. Surprisingly, I actually remember that, too.
It was a foregone conclusion that I would major in art in college. I graduated in 1977 with a
BSE in art education.
I have been teaching art at the middle school or high school level since 1990.
Once I had settled into teaching and didn’t have to use every spare minute for research,
lesson plans and grading, I began to work on my own projects in earnest.
Now that I have lots to show, I have decided to see what opportunities are available for me
in the freelance art market. Portraits and illustration are my main things. When I say
illustration, I don't necessarily mean for books or magazines. All my pictures tell bits and
pieces of a stories that go on in my head. I draw things that interest me, or things I have
feelings about.
If people viewing my work feel a connection to it, and attach a meaning important to them,
that is a great thing to me.
I draw in all media, paint in oil and acrylic, and use tools like Adobe Photoshop and Corel
Painter.
